Vi går in i Alvatider och hedrar till minne av våra förfäder och de som inte finns med vid vår sida längre. Halloween och Allahelgona här i Skandinavien grundar sig i samma typ av hedrande som vår fornnordiska och hedniska högtid Alvablot – en uråldrig tradition som infaller något senare detta år. Denna runsten står i Södermanland, Sverige med inskrift från 1000-talet e.Kr. av den yngre futharken:

Fornlämningar är skyddade enligt lag i Skandinavien och seden att resa runstenar tillhör tiden mellan hedendom och kristendom på 1000-talet och tidigare. Det inristade korset på denna sten visar ett kristet inflytande. Runor ristades oftast till minne av en död familjemedlem och många stenar är också resta till minne av väg -eller brobygge eller efter sjöfarande vikingar.

Inskriften i runstenen:
sikniu × raisti × stai–t × siRuþr × faþur sin × siba–oþur
“Signjut reste stenen efter Sigröd, sin fader Sibbes bror.”

The wisdom and poems of our ancestors echoes through the ages. We have entered the time of the Æsir, and we honor our forefathers and those who’s not by our side anymore. Halloween and All Hallows’ Eve here in Scandinavia is based on the same type of honoring as our Old Norse and Pagan tradition called Álfablót – a very old ancient tradition which occurs later on this year. More about that in an upcoming post – stay tuned! 🎃

Here we have a runestone in Södermanland, Sweden with inscription from the 1000s A.D. of the younger futhark:

Rune stones and ancient sites are protected by law in Scandinavia and the custom of erecting rune stones belongs to the time between Paganism and Christianity around the 11th century and earlier. The carved cross on this rune stone shows a Christian influence. Rune stones was often carved in memorial of a dead or fallen family member,  and many stones are also erected and carved in memory of a road, a bridge building or after seafaring Vikings.

The inscription in the runestone:
“Signjut erected the stone after Sigröd, his father Sibbe’s brother.”
