β†Ÿ Gratulerer med dagen, Norge! πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡―

Yesterday, 17th of May is the National Day of Norway (Constitution Day). The 17th of May year 1814 the King Christian Frederik signed the country’s constitution. It began with a short period of independence for Norway before the union with Sweden came to begin the same year, but which then came to be dissolved in 1905. May 17th is a holiday and official flag day that is celebrated extensively in Norway, and many people are wearing their traditional folk costumes.

Norway is a constitutional monarchy where the reigning King, Harald V of Norway, is the country’s head of state. Since January 17th in 1991 he has been King, and his successor to the throne is Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, who is also third cousin with the King of Sweden, Carl Gustaf XVI. Hurra for Syttende Mai!
