↟ Lugnarohögen – The Lugnaro Mound ↟

Lugnarohögen is a Scandinavian burial site located deep within a mound, and is dated 3000 years back in time, to the Younger Bronze Age. The mound is located at Lugnaro, a cottage in Hasslöv, Halland in Sweden. Lugnaro roughly translates from Swedish to “calm and quiet”.

In the middle of the mound, there is an 8 meter long stone ship, and this one in particular, is the first ship burial in a Bronze Age mound that was found here in Sweden. The ship of stone have a meaning to take the Hugr (intellect or memories) and the Hamr (emotional body) onward to the next life. The Litr (physical body) stays behind.

Next to the stone ship an urn was found with burnt human -and sheep bones with three small bronze objects to symbolize a safe passage to the other side: a dagger, a pair of tweezers and an awl from around 900-800 BC.

In the 1920s, an excavation of the mound was made, and an underground passageway was built to enable the tomb to be seen from within. Highly worth a visit if you’re in the area, remember to stay connected with your forebears 🌿
