↟ Vårdagjämning – Spring Equinox ↟

🌱 Idag infaller vårdagjämningen i Skandinavien som enligt gammal Nordisk tradition räknas som vårens första dag, när tjälen i marken snart släpper och naturen sakta fylls av pånyttfödelse. Nu går vi in i Vanernas tid – den feminina delen av året förknippat med livgivande, fruktbarhet och solen, Sunna.

🌱 Vårdagjämningen ger förebud om vår och förr i Skandinavien var det en av årets viktigaste dagar att uppmärksamma, man tände stora brasor likt vi gör än idag vid Vanadisblotet och Valborgsmässoafton. Arbetet följde årstiderna och när våren kom övergick arbetet i gårdarna i en energirik period – det är nu som vårbruket med plöjning, harvning, gödsling och sådd inleds. Vid vårdagjämning var det viktigt att läsa tydor (tolkningar av bland annat djurens beteende och naturens egenskaper) för att förutspå vädret, vilket var viktigt eftersom väderleken påverkade hur grödorna man sådde skulle ta sig.

🌱 Vår anses det att vara i Skandinavien när medeltemperaturen under fem dygn i följd har legat över 0°C. Men det är heller inte ovanligt att temperaturen sjunker under 0°C flera veckor igen. Vid denna tid står solen exakt lodrätt mot ekvator och dag och natt är ungefär lika långa. Astronomiskt sett kan vi säga farväl till vintern och hälsa våren och solen, Sunna åter välkommen! 🌞

🌱 Today the Spring Equinox occur in Scandinavia and accordingly to old Nordic tradition, this day is counted as the first day of Spring – when the ground frost soon will melt and nature is slowly filled with rebirth. Now we enter the time of the Vanir, the feminine part of the year associated with rebirth, fertility, growth and the sun, Sunna.

🌱 Spring Equinox heralds spring, and back in time this was one of the most important days of the year to celebrate in form of big bonfires – as we still do today at the Vanadisblót and Walpurgis Night. Back in the old days the work followed the seasons. When spring came, the work in the farms turned into a hectic period – it is now time for plowing the fields, harrowing, fertilizing the soil and sowing seeds begins. During the Spring Equinox it was good to take the opportunity to read interpretations: behavior of animals and the characteristics of nature, to predict the weather. This was important because the weather affected the corps.

🌱 It is considered to be Spring in Scandinavia when the average temperature has been over 0°C for five days in a row. But it’s not uncommon that the temperature drops below 0°C for several weeks again.
At this day, the sun is exactly vertical over the equator and day and night are about the same length. Astronomically speaking, we can say goodbye to Winter and greet Spring and the sun, Sunna welcome again! 🌞
