β†Ÿ Happy Constitution Day, Denmark! πŸ‡©πŸ‡°

Since the 5th of June 1849, Denmark became a constitutional monarchy and received its first democratic constitution. Today, Danes celebrate constitutional celebrations in Denmark and raise the Dannebrog.

Dannebrog is the name of the Danish flag, and the legend says that it fell from the sky to Valdemar Sejr’s troops during the battle of LindanΓ€s in Estonia year 1219, 15th of June. It is the oldest national flag in the world, still in use today. Dannebrogen means “Danish clothes” or “well processed fabric.” The cross design was first used on the Danish flag, which was then also taken over by the other Nordic countries.

Denmark is a constitutional monarchy where the queen Margarethe II of Denmark has been the country’s head of state since 1972, the 14th of January. Her firstborn son, Crown Prince Frederik, took over the monarch two years ago. Happy Constitution Day to all Danes! πŸ‡©πŸ‡°
