ohn Bauer was a Swedish artist, known for his paintings and illustrations of “Among Gnomes and Goblins (Bland Tomtar och Troll).

Bauers work had, and still have a profound impact on the Swedish folklore and folktales. Early in his career, Bauer made a number of trips that would forever mark his inspiration in his illustrations. He traveled mainly to Lapland but also Germany and Italy. This particular painting is in the museum of Jönköping county, Sweden.
